Preserving the solitude of poetry Tenth edition October 22 – 27, 2024 Curated by Fabio Biondi

Solitude and Solitariness
A question, perhaps out of time, to reflect on the different shades of solitude that traverse the realms of research and creation, words and bodies. A question rooted in the nature of feelings, to try to understand the solitude of creative acts and the transitions toward the calls of solitariness, before the circulation of works that gain value within their communities of reference, in the relations between singular and plural, private and public.

In this slowed-down time, with thoughts racing fast, and limitations on space and interpersonal contacts, we are experiencing a new condition that we might be tempted to call solitude but which we should rather call solitariness. Solitariness is the condition we are invited to experience today. It is not endured solitude — bitter, closed, abandoned. Solitariness is an open, conscious, mature, responsible choice.

Perhaps what we need are Poetic Foundations (a hundred years, Raffaello Baldini) to pass on the beauty and lightness of poems and poetic words to new generations?
